"When Elfreda Mathis was a young teacher at Piney Point Elementary School I had the privilege of being her ‘room mother’. I worked closely with her in the classroom and on the playground. I marveled at the way she worked with the children. She showed no preference for any child, just treated each one as the individual they were. She had a great insight for what motivated children and used that insight to encourage each child in an appropriate manner. It was such a joy to watch the children respond to her caring ways. Just as she strove to understand the students, she strives to understand the issues that we are facing today in our community. She will not accept a one-sided version of any issue – she will completely research the issue to understand all aspects."

"Hello Mrs. Mathis:

I have had a while to think about your running for County Commissioner and I am so very glad you are once again opening yourself up to serve your community. I knew you couldn't stay away too long. Personally, you came into my life 16 years ago. During these 16 years, I have discovered two words to describe you. They are passionate and committed. Clearly your passion and commitment extend beyond your own blood relatives. Your commitment to finding the truth in any situation with a win/win outcome from it will always be your driving force. I watched you investigate, problem solve, and love people of all ages, sizes, races, and creeds until the situation was handled to all parties satisfaction. I stand amazed in your strength through adversity, and your trust in the Lord to give you peace for doing what is right. Thank you for your integrity.

Sincerely,
Pat Davidson"

"Elfreda Mathis sees the big picture better than any administrator I’ve ever worked for. She analyzes issues from every angle, looks for the root causes of problems, and makes decisions that will have a lasting positive impact. Great educators have a life-long love of learning and a passion to help and inspire others to fulfill their greatest potential. What better qualities could we ask of our elected leaders? The same qualities that made Elfreda Mathis a great educator will make her a great County Commissioner too."

"My Dear Friends:

The spirit and leadership of Mrs. Elfreda Mathis has been well recognized in the community for most of her life. She has dedicated more than 35 years of herself, unselfishly, to educate our children in the St. Mary’s County Public School System.

When we were young, we learned the value of teamwork. We learned that by working with others, we could do much more - and in less time - than we could do on our own. Mrs. Mathis helps bring people together to focus on the key problems and issues that affect our communities. This is why I offer up my full endorsement to Elfreda because I am fully aware of her commitment to our community.

Your help in getting her elected as County Commissioner in St. Mary’s County will go a long way to help the people in our community. Together we can make a difference.

Sincerely,
Perry A. Rothwell"
